James Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Lakehead University and Director of the Lakehead Relationships Lab. His research focuses on the relationship processes associated with romantic relationship development and intimacy, as well as improving research methods in relationship science.

Aashvi Gupta
My name is Aashvi, and I am an incoming graduate student (psychological science) being co-supervised by Dr Kim. I have previously worked as a research assistant with the lab. My research interests include studying negative personality traits such as the dark triad (narcissism, psychopathy, and machiavellianism), their intersection with trauma, and how they impact everyday relationships.

Kailey Dallaire
Kailey Dallaire recently completed her Honors Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Lakehead University. She completed her undergrad thesis in Dr. Kim’s lab during the 2025/2026 academic year. Her thesis is titled “What do new couples choose to talk about: Topic Sensitivity and Discussion Choices After Learning Partner Preferences”. Kailey’s research interests include newly formed relationships, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and emotion regulation. Specifically, how early life experiences shape interpersonal relationships and communication. Kailey is now pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree at Lakehead University and would like to continue research in psychology in the future.
